Big Bass Boat
Big Bass Boat is one of those games I opened expecting to bounce off in ten minutes and ended up playing for the whole tram ride home. You pilot a little boat around lakes and coastlines, pick a spot, and cast. The core loop is simple, but the way the game hides feedback in small details is what kept me coming back — ripples, bird activity, the color of the water all hint at where fish are hiding.
The controls are the highlight. Casting is a single swipe with a tug-of-war reel-in that uses tilt and thumb pressure together. It sounds fiddly on paper but after a few casts it becomes muscle memory. I appreciated that they let you switch to a pure button layout in settings for people who hate motion controls.
Sessions are gentle on the battery since there's no constant heavy rendering, which makes it a great pick-up-and-put-down game. My phone barely warmed up over half an hour, and it looks fine on a mid-range device.
What we liked
- Intuitive swipe-and-tilt casting that clicks fast
- Optional button-only controls in the settings
- Very light on battery for a graphical game
